Prerequisites for successful laser hair removal
Assess your hairiness
As you know, every person is unique. Even more so in our eyes. The same applies to our lasers.

It is not the colour of your hair that determines whether a laser treatment is feasible. Your laser therapist will focus more on the colour of your armpit hair. That is why you should not shave before your first consultation.
For laser hair removal to be effective, your hair must contain a minimum amount of melanin (i.e. colour). White, grey, very blond or some red hairs do not contain any and the laser therefore has no impact on such hair.
Contraindications
Your underarms cannot be treated with laser if:
- They are tanned, albeit slightly
- You are expecting a happy event

Preliminary consultation
A free, mandatory preliminary consultation without any obligation takes place in each of our Epilia centres.
A laser therapist welcomes you for this first appointment. During this appointment, she will explain everything you need to know about laser hair removal. You can take advantage of the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
During this consultation she will also determine the feasibility of the treatment according to your skin type and underarm hairiness.
The laser therapist will explain the procedure for each session and give you a quote. You will therefore know the price of each of your sessions.
Furthermore, you pay only after each session. And only for that session. You won’t be asked to pay an advance. So you can manage your budget over the duration of the treatment.
Laser hair removal session
We like to pamper you. So we will welcome you to a cosy and comfortable treatment room irrespective of the Epilia centre you choose.
We simply ask you to lie down and hold your arm up during the laser treatment. Rest assured, this will only take a few minutes.
You may feel something akin to a slight flick of a rubber band on the skin, but this pain is completely bearable.
We use a cooling technique from Zimmer to reduce the tingling sensation as much as possible and thus make sur that your laser hair removal is as pleasant as possible. The cold acts as a local anaesthetic.
Post-hair removal care
You will already notice the results of laser hair removal: smooth, soft skin, after your first session.
Any redness which might appear during the treatment will go away on its own.
- Do not apply deodorant for 24 hours.
- We recommend that you apply a moisturising cream morning and evening for 3 days following your laser session.
- Do not go swimming in a pool or in the sea and do not take a hot shower or bath for 48 hours after your session.
The slight tingling experienced during the sessions will stop immediately when the laser stops.
You should follow a few recommendations between two laser hair removal sessions:
- Avoid the sun and UV rays on your underarms
- And say goodbye to the razor
Is one session enough?
No! Laser hair removal entails a long-term treatment.
Why is that?
Your hair grows according to a very precise cycle. It comprises three phases. The laser hair removal system takes out follicles only during the active growth phase. This is known as the anagen phase.
Your hair is then at rest during the second or catagen phase. So the laser beam cannot reach them.
Finally, the third or telogen phase is the end of your hair’s life. It is naturally ejected by its bulb, but it is not destroyed.
Your armpits (and all other areas of the body) need several sessions so that the Alexandrite laser can attack all the follicles in the growth phase.
That is why you need to wait a certain amount of time between each session. This is the time it takes for your hair to go from one phase to another.
The number of sessions required varies from one person to another. It all depends on several factors, including physiology and the expectations of each person.
